1. CeBIT 2009: focus on cost effectiveness and legal compliance
From 3-8 March this year, CeBIT will again be the marketplace for innovative technology and pioneering solutions in the world of digital business. GROUP Technologies, the email, archiving and administration division of GROUP Business Software AG, will be presenting its e-mail management solutions at a booth shared with GEDYS Intraware GmbH.
"In the light of the latest developments in the global marketplace, we are making cost-effective, legally compliant email management the focal point of our CeBIT platform," explains Herbert Reder, Managing Director of GROUP Technologies. "The current tension in virtually all areas of the economy is forcing companies into a critical re-think of their processes. E-mails are no exception to this rule. So we want to show the persons in charge how universal cost control coupled with the necessary legal compliance can help make company-wide email communication both efficient and reliable," Reder continues.
At booth B 20 in Hall 2, email experts will be presenting their solutions for email management and Notes client management to the specialist audience. Besides the issue of cost effectiveness, we will be highlighting two other solutions, iQ.Suite WebCrypt and iQ.Suite ClientAdmin at this year's fair. At our workstations, visitors will get the chance to see the latest developments and experience the solutions in a live context.

2. Effective email cost control with iQ.Suite Budget ahead of over-hasty cost-cutting initiatives
Recent months have left their mark on many companies. It is becoming increasingly obvious that only those companies that have managed to get a grip of their IT processes and develop them strategically for their own benefit will be able to function successfully in the long term.
Managers everywhere are being given the mandate to push cost-cutting - often, however, without any real concept and without the means to invest in a sustainable cost-cutting plan. But effective controlling doesn`t need huge cut-backs - much can be achieved by exploiting existing potential. First and foremost is an effective system of cost control, with efficient email controlling at the top of the list.
With iQ.Suite, you can establish an effective email controlling system. All e-mail correspondence can be comprehensively analysed. You will learn what your company's email system actually costs, broken down by user, group and department. In addition, you can run a detailed economic analysis of all incoming and outgoing email correspondence, so as to identify factors such as peak times and resource bottlenecks. Besides email costs, you can record the number of virus attacks, spam mails and specific types of file attachment, too.
With iQ.Suite, you can introduce successful lean-management principles to the world of email communications. For you, this means that all your email activities are perfectly harmonised, redundant workflows are avoided, and over-zealous cost-cutting measures are prevented.
3. iQ.Suite news: new release for iQ.Suite WebCrypt
In times of increasing demands on the confidentiality of electronic communication, email encryption is playing an ever more significant role. This is ample reason for us to present a new release of iQ.Suite WebCrypt - our email encryption solution made easy.
Here is a summary of the key enhancements:
- Inclusion of a security fix in the OpenSSL library which addresses the use of "weak keys" during certificate generation
- Configuration of the WebCrypt database name for more flexible usage of SQL databases that are to be used on a remote basis

5. GROUP Technologies UK at the "FST IT Security Conference" in London on 24 February
Increasingly, the current financial market crisis is forcing banks and financial institutions to get smart on IT security. Their interest is turning towards such aspects as confidentiality and data privacy. The "Financial Sector Technology IT Security Conference", which is being held at the Institute of Directors in London on 24 February, is dedicated to this topic. It will enable leading IT officers from banks and financial institutions to share information and ideas with prominent security experts. GROUP Technologies, the Email, Archiving & Administration division within GROUP Business Software AG, will be addressing the significance of confidential email communications at the event.
"Email is an integral part of efficient and secure communications. In the world of finance, it is the medium that conveys confidential information - both inside and outside the banks," emphasises Andreas Richter, Director International Marketing at GROUP Technologies. "We have maintained close relationships with our finance customers over many years. Comprehensive email security and legally compliant email archiving are key factors in a seamless electronic communications strategy. We are therefore looking forward to talking with IT officers from the world of banking at this event," says Richter.
The main theme of the event is reflected in the interesting and highly topical presentations on IT security. In his presentation, Matthias Röder, Senior Consultant at GROUP Technologies, will be looking at the close mesh between the different aspects of email management and will focus on their importance for the finance sector. In addition, participants will be able to talk with email experts at the GROUP stand during the events.

6. Exchange/SMTP corner: using individual S/MIME certificates
You regard secure Internet communication as a matter of course.
And with the help of a certificate, you can verify at all times whether you have established communications with the correct partner, or you can encrypt confidential emails and even sign them for optimum security. But now, you want to use not only global company certificates but individual ones issued by official trust centres.
Read here how to go about this and where you must take special care.
7. Lotusphere follow-up
GROUP Technologies had a presence at Lotusphere 2009 in Orlando from 18-22 January 2009. The GROUP booth was the platform for numerous interesting discussions on strategic and technology issues relating to the IBM Lotus platform.
"We regard Lotusphere as an important platform to exchange information on the latest developments in the Lotus arena both with users and experts, and to introduce a specialist international audience to our solutions," said Andreas Richter, Director of International Marketing at GROUP Technologies. "As the leading provider of solutions for the Lotus Domino platform, topics such as legally compliant e-mail archiving and efficient Notes client management were the focus of interest. Increasingly, many companies are feeling the need to take action in this area in order to adapt their processes to the changing legal and economic requirements," Richter continued.
